Saint-Clair
18th-century château in the classical style. Beautiful French-style gardens, large orangery. Listed on the supplementary inventory of historical monuments.
The Château de Gourdan was built in the middle of the XNUMXth century to replace an old manor house of which a wing still remains. The main building in the shape of "L" consists of two parts:
One, in classical style and the other wing, a vestige of the old manor, dates from 1578. Besides the chapel, it houses a wine press, a wine cellar and a wine cellar where the estate's wine was made and stored.
In front of the main building, the formal French garden, built on an artificial terrace, lends part of the château's charm, with its boxwood parterres, rose bushes, and orange trees in the warmer months. Located just below is the orangery, considerable in size.
Finally, further north, the wing of the Square Tower, built in the 19th century, included, in addition to the tower, which was intended to serve as an observatory, a hothouse and icehouses.
