Rivoire Castle

The Château de la Rivoire, built in the first half of the 18th century, was designed as a pleasure residence in the heart of a farm. Group visits from October to June (minimum 10 people) and individual visits in July and September.

Built between 1728 and 1740, and embellished between 1750 and 1760, the Château de la Rivoire was shaped by a dual inspiration: that of the bastides of Aix-en-Provence and that of the "follies" of the Île-de-France. It reflects the tastes and history of a family that lived for several decades in Provence before dividing its time between the Cance Valley and Versailles, where the Marquis de la Rivoire held a position in the service of the Dauphine, Marie Josephe of Saxony, in the mid-18th century.

Etienne de Canson and later his son made the Château de la Rivoire their residence from 1830 until the early years of the 20th century. Heavily inspired by the bastides, it reflects the journey, from Provence to Versailles, of a family from the Vivarais region who held positions at court.
