Vanosc
Nestled at the foot of the Pilat Massif, Vanosc is an authentic village nestled in the heart of the mountains of North Ardèche.
At an altitude of 630 meters, Vanosc is surrounded by mountains, forests, and trails ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and observing flora and fauna. The area, between the green Ardèche and the Pilat Mountains, offers magnificent panoramas and a real breath of fresh air. Several marked trails allow you to explore the surrounding heights, with breathtaking views of the valley and surrounding peaks.
Nestled against the foothills of the Pilat massif, Vanosc asserts its mountain character with its stone houses, Saint-Louis church, and quiet lanes. The village boasts a long history: presumed ancient settlement, medieval ties with the seigneury of Vocance, and the presence of two castles within its territory: Gerlande and, most notably, La Rivoire, an elegant 15th- and 16th-century building, now partially restored.
Vanosc is also the birthplace of Joseph Besset, a pioneer in coachbuilding. The "From Wheelwright to Coach" museum, located in the heart of the village, retraces this industrial adventure and displays vehicles, tools, and archives.
