Renaud VezinVisit of the Parchment Museum
Annonay
Created in 1926 by Marcel Dumas, listed in the inventory of Rare Art Crafts in 2011, Parcheminerie Dumas, one of the last three in France, is still a family business today, managed by Frédéric Dumas, the small - son of Marcel.
One of the few museums dedicated to Parchment, allowing you to discover one of the last three parchment workshops in France, located in Annonay.
The museum space allows you to discover the history of parchment and the parchment maker's craft, listed in the inventory of Rare Crafts since 2011, to perfect your knowledge in working with skin and to admire the last skin drying shed in Annonay, a town renowned for its tanning expertise since the medieval period.
You will learn about the Dumas Tannery and Parchment Works through its history, the diversity of trades associated with the business, and the varied uses of the finished product. You will witness the parchment making process from the glass-enclosed gallery overlooking the workshop.
