In the exceptional setting of the Sanctuary of Notre-Dame d'Ay, the association Trésors de Ferveur of Chalon-sur-Saône presents nativity scenes and characters from the 16th to the 20th century, in closed glass boxes.
The most precious figurines are made of spun glass or wax, the simplest ones are made of breadcrumbs, stucco or paper. They are arranged in varied, abundant and sometimes fanciful settings. More than 100 nativity scenes to discover on the ground floor of the dungeon with the collection of Doctor Thierry Pinette.
Upstairs, discover the dressed santons, creatively staged in Provençal settings. You will find the essential characters like the fishmonger, the baker, the shepherd, the Arlesienne, the lazy man… around the crib representing the Nativity scene.
Thierry Pinette: "I've been thrifting since I was little, it's ingrained in me. I bought my first glass box when I was 12 in Saint-Rémy de Provence. And believe me, making such a purchase at that age wasn't easy, I had to ask my parents for permission to break open my piggy bank."
Visitors will also be able to enjoy the exceptional setting of the Sanctuary of Notre-Dame d'Ay. The Sanctuary shop will be open during the exhibition and a Christmas market will be held in the village on December 8.
