Step back in time on a guided tour of the gardens and grounds of Château de Brogieux. Follow the evolution of the site through its construction stages since 1377.

Created in the 18th century, these private gardens are laid out in French-style terraces adorned with pools. Home to citrus trees, laurels and palm trees in Anduze pots, decorated with topiary boxwood, these gardens boast some remarkable trees such as a cedar of Lebanon and a Chinese yew, and are attempting to restore the plantings that contributed to their creation.

Built on the remains of a 14th-century fortified farm, the castle was progressively improved by the family that acquired it in 1676. Without significant external modifications since 1770, it was mainly under the impetus of Pierre Marie Christophe (1735 – 1826), ancestor of today's owner, that the complex took on its current appearance, with in particular the creation of terraced gardens opening onto the panorama of the Alps.

It was during this period known as the "Age of Enlightenment," as evidenced by the house's extensive archives, that Brogieux was involved in all the ideas and discoveries that characterized this era. These included Pierre Marie Christophe Bollioud's moderating influence during the revolutionary period, his passion for botany, the introduction of the silkworm, and his friendship with and interest in the Montgolfier brothers' aeronautical discoveries.
