Roaming on the Via Fluvia

The Via Fluvia is a cycle route/greenway that starts in Ardèche and goes to Haute-Loire. Less well-known than its neighbours the dolce via and Via Rhona, it has something to make you dream! From valleys to viaducts, you will pass by the must-see places of the route and enjoy incredible panoramas of the Rhone Valley, the Pilat massif or the volcanic peaks of Haute-Loire.

Join the Via Rhôna

To join the Via Rhôna from Annonay, crisscross the magnificent Cance valley. A route shared with cars and not marked but where traffic remains low. From the road, you follow the Cance river and can take the time to admire two magnificent sites: the Historic Monument of Moulin-sur-Cance bridge and Roche Pereandre, a monolithic rock overlooking the river.

I tested the Diversion Nature offer

“A loop between vineyards and a secret valley. Get some fresh air, escape… but where to go? I like walking and hiking, both on foot and by bike. So, at the start of the season, the desire for a nice outing naturally imposed itself. With a couple of friends staying at my place, we decided to trust Diversion Nature for an itinerary suitable for everyone. Objective: a 50 km route by electric bike, mixing beautiful landscapes and quiet roads.

Frédéric, from Diversion Nature, suggests the “Cormes – Vallée de la Cance” circuit, ideal with the forecast north wind. My friends rent their e-bikes from Intersport and I take mine. We download the route… and off we go!

From the first few kilometers, we leave the main roads to take quiet little roads. In Cormes, a panoramic break: the vineyards of Saint-Joseph in the foreground, the Rhône below and the Vercors on the horizon. Superb!

Then we discover the Cance valley, a real treat for cyclists. A narrow and winding road, lined with forests and cliffs, where we only come across one car in 15 km!

As we turn the bends, we come across surprising scenery: an old bridge, old mills and above all the Roche Péréandre, this impressive monolith which stands in the heart of the river.

Then back to Annonay with a well-deserved break. We finish our loop on the Place des Cordeliers, a cold drink in hand, we fully enjoy this beautiful half-day. My friends are won over. "Thank you for this superb outing!" they tell me. But the credit goes to Diversion Nature, which allowed us to discover these hidden routes, far from the busy roads."
