Presentation
In an old 17th century farm, surrounded by nature, the Petit Cabanon is a building independent of our home.
The ideal nest to recharge your batteries as a couple or alone, in the heart of the Ardèche countryside that is both wild and bucolic.
Le Petit Cabanon comprises three levels of approximately 10 m2: on the ground floor the entrance via the bathroom (unusual?), on the first floor the kitchen and its large wooden terrace, and above under the roof the bedroom.
We have redone (2018, 2023) the interior of the building from the threshold to the roof, while keeping old elements, floors, beams and exposed stones ... The new wooden elements come from the property (Douglas, Ash, Lime). A restoration as eco-friendly as possible for the materials used: lime plasters on the walls (air lime, lime-hemp, Moroccan tadelakt), hemp wool insulation for the roof.
The location of the shed above the large vegetable and fruit garden, facing the valley, guarantees you the greatest tranquility. You can enjoy a grassy and gardened area outside the building with barbecue (old-fashioned) and cold water point.
You have a parking space in front of the building.
The fiber optic internet connection allows remote working.
I am retired, co-owner of a beautiful Ardèche house in the heart of a family hamlet, surrounded by wooded and enclosed parks maintained by five sheep, and a 3-hectare deciduous forest which provides my firewood. With my wife Annie, we have also traveled a lot, mainly in the big cities of the world, but today widowed, I travel alone.
As I cycle (e-bike) to go shopping, I can advise you on walks to do around the house (marked trails, GR 42), by bike to the neighbouring towns, and further afield in the surrounding area (Safari-Parc de Peaugres, Palais Idéal du Facteur Cheval, Cité du Chocolat, Prieuré de Veyrines, Musée du papier Canson, Caves des grands crus de la vallée du Rhône, etc.)
Laffarre is an isolated hamlet 2,5 km from the village of Préaux, where you can find a bar-restaurant, bakery-grocery store. The commune extends over 2200 hectares, from 380 to 989 m above sea level.
In Préaux there are three producers of goat and sheep cheese, including 'la Ferme de l'Amélie', just opposite the house on the other side of the valley, accessible on foot.
You can do your shopping in the village, buy directly from the producers (cheeses, charcuterie) or in the surrounding area at the local markets less than 10 kilometers away (Satillieu on Tuesdays, Quintenas on Thursdays, Saint Félicien on Fridays and Sundays (the Sunday market is that of local producers).
The Rhone Valley is very close (15-20 km) with its internationally renowned AOP vineyards: Saint-Joseph, Cornas, Hermitage, Condrieu, Côtes-Rôties...
For gourmets, there are many gourmet restaurants within a 50 km radius, including a Michelin-starred one in St-Bonnet-le Froid (Marcon).
A vehicle is essential for any travel, there is no public transport.
IMPORTANT:
Our accommodation has stairs between each room. Access to the bedroom is via a "miller's ladder" type staircase (see photos). People who are significantly overweight or have balance difficulties should not book this accommodation as it is not suitable for them.
Smokers are requested to smoke outside on the terrace and use an ashtray.
Only one small dog is allowed as a pet. There is no fence around the shed so it will need to be kept in check and not allowed to wander as we have neighbours in the hamlet and chickens and sheep in the parks.
