Presentation

From the square keep, the watchman could see the Rhone. It was built around 1360 by Cardinal de Colombier. The South-East tower, with horizontal loopholes, is from the 15th century. More modest buildings in the Renaissance style have been added.

This charming castel is made up of three towers. The oldest seems to be the keep, a rectangular tower which is accessed from the first floor. Only a few rare and narrow openings illuminate the interior. The floors of this one were completely planked. It would have been built around 1360 by Cardinal de Colombier, lord of the place. The round tower to the southeast, with its horizontal loopholes, dates from the 15th century. In this tower are dungeons. The third, more recent, dates from the beginning of the 16th century. Buildings leaning against the keep form a Renaissance main building. Another building was added or repaired in an even more recent era, 17th century or 18th century…
Seat of a barony, the castle's history dates back to at least 1025. After the Revolution, it belonged to the Annonean families, Desfrancais de l'Olme, Bechetoille, Marthoret by inheritance then after a sale to the Annonean families Mignot and Lapize de Sallée, It was inhabited, it seems, until around 1850 – 1860. Then it was gradually forgotten under the vegetation until the middle of the 20th century. The remains were listed as historical monuments on December 28, 1950. After another sale in 1964, it was restored and occupied again. It has changed owners several times since and cannot be visited.
