Presentation

The bridge dates from the Middle Ages, and more precisely from the 13th century. It was one of the gateways to the city and connected the Cordeliers convent to the fortified city.

The Valgelas Bridge overlooks the Deûme river. Several origins to its name: "Vallea Gelata" or the name of a Crusader, founder of the Commandery of Saint Georges in Annonay. The Valgelas Bridge, or Bridge of the Friars Minor, dates from the XNUMXth century, with some later modifications. You have to imagine the city sheltered by its ramparts along the right bank of the Deûme. This work was built by the Cordeliers monks, who wanted to be able to take refuge quickly in the city during attacks by brigands, frequent in the Middle Ages, a period of insecurity...
