Medieval village of Boulieu-les-Annonay
Boulieu-les-Annonay
The Compagnons du Patrimoine take you into the cellars of the Middle Ages and make you relive the troubled times of the village. Between anecdotes and legends, the streets of the village, surrounded by walls, seem to protect you.
From its distant past, the town has retained its medieval architecture. When you enter the heart of the city, you are also quite surprised to discover the remains of a small fortified town, with its narrow streets, its old towers, the remains of its surrounding walls, houses with windows Renaissance and massive nailed doors. Another particularity of the town, the presence of the Caves d'Enfer. They are dug under the village, built on 2 levels and extend over approximately 2 hectares. They were used to store, during a halt, the goods that the muleteers had to transport in the mountain, because Boulieu-lès-Annonay was an important relay of muleteers.
