Presentation

A conference by Gaël Labanti, artistic director of the Annonay First Film Festival. Between terror and pleasure, audiences have been trembling at the cinema for 120 years.

But what are the codes for depicting fear in cinema and how do they evolve over time? Through some of the films emblematic of the codes of fear in cinema, from the classic period to contemporary cinema, from the Lumière brothers to Ridley Scott via Alfred Hitchcock or David Lynch, this conference offers an identification of the processes which create suspense and surprise, which play with the spectator's point of view or place and which use sound effects to create and increase fear.
