Just 1 hours from Lyon, in the heart of northern Ardèche, our sheepfold lost in the countryside at an altitude of 30 m, is far from any neighborhood noise or roads. You benefit from a magnificent view of the Ardèche massifs. Ideal for families or friends. From October to April, you will find the pleasure of fireplaces, pellet stoves and braziers. Mountain chalet atmosphere for 760 people max.

The little extras of our sheepfold:

As we have just installed a 2nd bathroom and a pellet stove, we decided to also open the sheepfold in autumn and spring (for 8 people maximum). To get an idea, read the comments of other travelers who have been coming for 4 years in summer (at the bottom of the page).

- surrounded by nature without neighbors
- in winter mountain chalet atmosphere with fireplaces / wood and pellet stoves
- however given recent climate changes, it is necessary that at least one vehicle be equipped with snow tires or chains/socks
- smokers and pets allowed

- 2 homes 15 m apart, one for noise and the other for peaceful sleep
- 2 hammocks for naps
- well-equipped house to avoid bulky luggage (e.g. tea towels, sheets, microwave, 2 filter coffee makers, 2 toasters, fryer, bread machine, raclette, fondue, etc.) and all the basic necessities because we come there every month to recharge our batteries.

- for the youngest: a sandbox, 2 swings, a cabin in the woods
- walks from 20 minutes to 4 hours directly on site without taking your car

Before you decide, check that the style of the sheepfold suits you:

- We deliberately wanted to keep the simple and authentic character of this sheepfold. Even if it is well equipped with heaters, household appliances and board games, it has been fitted out and furnished over time via donations from our families, friends or flea market purchases. Hence its slightly vintage and timeless appearance.
- In certain rooms, the floor in large basic planks is from the period as well as the floor of the living room is still in concrete in places a little worn, there is no tiled exterior terrace or shelters but only grass (heeled shoes not recommended)... Also if you are looking for modern and trendy accommodation, you may not really enjoy your stay.
- Grimpeloup is at an altitude of 750 m on the northern Ardèche side, so remember to always take a good sweater, anorak/hat/gloves as well as good shoes for walking
- from October to April, you will need to recharge the pellet stove every 24 hours. In the sheepfold, there is an oil stove whose operation will be explained to you upon your arrival and for the cozy side a central fireplace, wood stove.

- with climatic hazards, you may encounter snow. Also it is better that at least one vehicle is equipped as for going skiing (snow tires and/or chains).

- Here nature is queen and it takes back its rights as soon as we leave it. You will encounter multitudes of insects, see here and there holes of field mice and moles and maybe even a few deer or foxes.

- The first neighbor is a 1-minute walk away. Hence this feeling of being at the end of the world and without the risk of bothering the neighbors.

- The water that flows is the water from the spring that all the local inhabitants consume. Taste it, just to see, it is delicious. But if you prefer, bring your bottles of mineral water (we generally count 2 liters per day per person including hot drinks)

- To access Grimpeloup, you must follow an unpaved forest path for 1,4 km which climbs constantly. All our friends and other travelers for 4 years have been able to reach our house BUT on one condition: STAY IN 1st and follow the signs carefully!

- We do not allow any motorized vehicles to pass through the property but mountain bikes, walkers and horses can pass by and greet you. We count on your courtesy.

- The wifi in the sheepfold is not always very fast, it is better to surf in the old house (an Ethernet cable can allow teleworking)
- The outdoor furniture is deliberately simple and country style: also for large tables you will use the 2 large boards and trestles as well as the benches
